Are You Measuring Patio Door The Right Way? These Three Tips Will Help You Answer

Why Most Users Prefer Patio Doors for Their Home?

Most homeowners prefer to use patio doors. This is according to the National Glass Association, because it brings and ambiance of the outside in and Patio doors is the easiest and most convenient way to do that.

According to Ducker Research, patio doors sales increased by 20 percent from 1999 to 2004. By 2015, walls in great rooms of upscale homes will be built all of glass, says Gopal Ahluwalia, a researcher for the National Association of Home Builders. There are several advantages offered by sliding patio doors.

If you are installing a new patio door or replacing an old one, it is important to know the patio door measurements. Typically, home improvement stores sell patio doors based on rough opening sizes---the distance between studs and the header and subfloor.

3 Easy Steps in Measuring Patio Doors

1. Determine the rough opening of the patio doors by measuring horizontally from stud to stud. If you already have a finished patio door and do not have access to the studs, measure from inside the door frame, and add 1 1/2 to 2 inches for an estimated size of the rough opening.

2. Measure the height of the opening by measuring from the bottom of the top frame (header) to the top of the subfloor.

3. Make four measurements---two horizontal measurements on the top and bottom of the opening, and two vertical measurements on each side. This will tell you whether your patio doors are square. Take the smaller of the horizontal and vertical numbers. Write down the measurements on a piece of paper.

How to Measure for a Replacement Patio Door

Measuring Patio Doors is easy as 1-2-3 but it turns out different in installing the windows and doors. I highly recommend to seak for a professional window installers. A poorly installed windows can end up being the cause of a lot of trouble, not only financially, but also in terms of your safety and security, creating easy entry points for intruders and animals.
